...Life without limits for people withdisabilities...
United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio is a private, non-profit agency whose mission is to provide an environment where people with disabilities and aging conditions receive individualized programs and support services.
Whether spending the day on a golf course playing adaptive golf, or
stepping onto the practice field during a tour of OSU’s Woody Hayes
Athletic Complex, 6 high school students with disabilities enjoyed a
fun-filled week at U.C.P. Camp (U Can Play Camp) July 19-23, 2010. The
purpose of the day-camp was to give the students an opportunity to
learn about ways to integrate physical fitness and healthy choices into
their lives. The activities also helped the campers to master a new
skill and explore their creativity through arts and crafts.
Charlotte McGraw and Suzanne Rhodes, two of UCP’s artists, were
selected to help create a mural to commemorate the 20th anniversary of
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The mural was unveiled
at 11:45am on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Ohio Statehouse.
No, you aren’t seeing things. That IS a koala hanging out at Heritage
Park at the Westerville Music and Arts Festival. You’re seeing a koala
bench, one of ten Create-a-Benches designed by the staff and
participants at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio. If you
were walking along the art exhibits you may have spotted a red sports
car, a Volkswagen Beetle, or even a giant rubber-ducky bench! These
daring, yet functional creations are a product of UCP’s Create-a-Bench
program. These artistically painted benches were on display throughout
the weekend and proved to be a resting place and conversation piece for
children and adults.
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio recently hosted their 11th
Anniversary “People of Promise” Golf Outing at The Lakes Golf and
Country Club, raising $40,000.00 to enhance the lives of people with
disabilities and aging conditions. This year’s outing was a huge
success with 130 golfers and nearly 150 businesses and corporations
lending their support. The support of companies like BMC Software,
Nationwide, and AEP help make this annual event one of Central Ohio’s
best.
On Friday, June 11th, twenty-five employees from Deloitte walked
through the front door in their bright blue volunteer T-shirts, excited
to spend the day at UCP of Central Ohio. UCP was thrilled to be
selected as one of the agencies that benefit from the volunteers’ time
and talents. This day marks the fifth year for Deloitte’s tradition of
visiting UCP to provide critical work to build up the agency’s facility
and grounds, as well as spend quality time with our participants.
