Previously known as Very Special Arts, VSA Arts of Ohio provides an environment for artists with disabilities to demonstrate their abilities, adding to the richness and cultural diversity throughout Ohio.
Charlotte and the other UCP artists hone their skills at the Art Bridge Studio, a program of UCP. The Studio works with individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities, and aging conditions. Participants develop their artistic skills and contribute to the community through art. In turn, the local community learns more about people with aging and disabling conditions. The visual arts are the primary emphasis of the Studio including ceramics, woodworking, clay, and painting. The philosophy of the program is to allow the person’s disability to work for them. Adaptive devices are built for the participants so that the individuals can paint with their head, mouth or foot. As the name implies, the Art Bridge Studio is a link between the community and individuals with disabilities.
