Registration Now Open for the 1st Annual UCP of Central Ohio Challenger Football Competition with the Columbus Destroyers at the Nationwide Arena!
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio is teaming up with the Columbus Destroyers to hold the 1st Annual UCP of Central Ohio Challenger Football Competition. The single-elimination competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 30th at the Nationwide Arena. Children and young adults with disabilities will have the opportunity to play flag football alongside the Columbus Destroyers and other Columbus business people, or attend a cheerleading clinic hosted by the Destroyers Bombshells. The event participants will also be invited to attend the Saturday, March 29th game when the Columbus Destroyers take on the Orlando Predators at 7:00 p.m. at the Nationwide Arena.
Registration for the UCP of Central Ohio Challenger Football Competition is February 1st- March 15th, 2008. The event is open to youth of all ages with a physical or mental disability. In lieu of a registration fee, event participants will be asked to donate 2 new or gently used books, or make a monetary donation. Event proceeds benefit UCP of Central Ohio, The 2nd and 7 Foundation, and the Miracle League of Central Ohio.
UCP of Central Ohio would like to recognize the growing list of event sponsors including the Columbus Destroyers, C-BUS Magazine, WBNS-10TV, US Bank, and National City.
Most children with disabilities don’t get the chance to play football due to the physical nature of the sport. The UCP of Central Ohio Challenger Football Competition allows children with mental and physical disabilities to experience the game of football in a fun and exciting way. To play, players are teamed up with a Football Buddy. During the game, utilizing the rules of flag football, the Football Buddy catches the ball and hands it off to the player who then runs/wheels, throws, catches and scores. The UCP of Central Ohio Challenger Football Competition allows the players to learn good sportsmanship and make new friends while transforming disabilities into abilities.
