[1] The Fresh A.I.R. Gallery in Columbus invites you to experience A Day in the Life of Charlottesville featuring original artwork by UCP of Central Ohio artist Charlotte McGraw. The exhibit will run through March 5th at 131 N. High Street in Columbus. Gallery hours are 8am-5:30pm Monday-Friday.

[2] Charlotte has been painting for more than three years, but was initially hesitant to set foot in the Art Bridge Studio at UCP. Charlotte just didn’t have the confidence to try making art. Now she has developed her own unique style using cut paper and paint to create images of creatures that live in her town of “Charlottesville.” As Charlotte creates the colorful creatures, she simultaneously weaves a story giving the viewer a glimpse into the lives of her creations.

[3] “The Creatures I create all live in my town-Charlottesville-where I am the permanent mayor. I learn many things about myself while I make an image. Some of the little monsters scare me, some make me laugh, and others I sympathize with,” explains Charlotte.

The Art Bridge Studio, a program of UCP, works with individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities, and aging conditions. Participants develop their artistic skills and contribute to the community through art. In turn, the local community learns more about people with aging and disabling conditions. The visual arts are the primary emphasis of the Studio including ceramics, woodworking, clay, and painting. The philosophy of the program is to allow the person’s disability to work for them. Adaptive devices are built for the participants so that the individuals can paint with their head, mouth or foot. As the name implies, the Art Bridge Studio is a link between the community and individuals with disabilities.
