Ohio-Whether spending the day on a golf course playing adaptive golf, or taking a tour of OSU’s Schottenstein Center, 10 high school students with disabilities enjoyed a fun-filled week at U.C.P. Camp (U Can Play Camp) July 20-24, 2009. The purpose of the day-camp was to give the students an opportunity to learn about ways to integrate physical fitness and healthy choices into their lives. The activities also helped the campers to master a new skill and explore their creativity through arts and crafts. The students were referred to the camp through the Franklin County Board of MRDD.
UCP of Central Ohio will sponsor the ACTION OHIO Coalition for Battered Women on Thursday, August 13, 2009. Information about the risks for violence that people with disabilities face will be presented at an all-day workshop at the Ohio Department of Agriculture administration building at 8995 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, women with disabilities have a 40% greater risk of violence than women without disabilities. The most common perpetrators are their male partners, who are often their caretakers. Reporting the crime could leave them without help for daily living. Furthermore, they may need the help of a caretaker to report a crime.
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland signed House Bill 67 and Senate Bill 79 on July 7, 2009.
House Bill 67 HB 67, sponsored by Rep. John Carney, permits anyone between the ages of 16 and 17 years old to donate blood with parental consent in a voluntary blood program that is not operated for profit, and it allows individuals 17 years of age or older to donate blood without parental consent. “This legislation will permit healthy young adults to donate blood with minimal restrictions – thereby increasing the accessibility and supply of blood donations during times of need,” Strickland said.

Is that a pig with wings? No. It’s a flying pig bench! This is one of
fifteen Create-a-Benches designed by the staff and participants at
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio. If you were walking along
the exhibits you may have spotted a skating turtle, exotic tropical
fish, or even a giant rubber-ducky bench! These daring, yet creative
animals were all creations of UCP’s Create-a-Bench program. These
artistically painted benches were on display throughout the weekend and
proved to be a resting place and conversation piece for children and
adults.
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio recently hosted their 10th

success with 120 golfers and nearly 150 businesses and corporations
lending their support. The support of companies like Nationwide, Able
Roofing, Crane Company, AEP, and State Auto help make this annual event
one of Central Ohio’s best.
Twenty Deloitte volunteers decked out in bright blue t-shirts walked
