United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio is a private, non-profit agency whose mission is to provide an environment where people with disabilities and aging conditions receive individualized programs and support services.
Whitney Mantonya has been elected to serve on UCP of Central Ohio’s
Board of Directors. Mantonya serves as Vice President of Operational
Excellence for Cardinal Health in Dublin, Ohio. Mantonya joined the
Board because she wants to help people with disabilities and aging
conditions, as well as their families and caregivers. Mantonya believes
strongly in developing and encouraging independence and empowerment.
Mantonya has been involved in several community organizations including
the March of Dimes, ARC, and Adopt a Family.

Six participants represented United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central
Ohio at Solidarity ’09, Ohio’s leading conference by and for people
with disabilities. The event returned for the tenth time Tuesday, April
14 to Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The
conference is organized by the Disability Network of Ohio (DNOS) and
attracts Ohioans with disabilities from all corners of the state. The
first Solidarity conference took place in 1991, and the 2009 event
featured a 10-year retrospective.
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio kicked off MRDD Awareness
Month in March by attending the MRDD Awareness Month kickoff event at
the Ohio Statehouse on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00
p.m. Several of UCP’s participants went to the Statehouse to be a part
of this important event in Columbus that highlights the many efforts
throughout the state that afford opportunities for people with
disabilities to be successful in their communities.
Artists from United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio continue to
display their talents at local art shows. The artwork of six UCP
participants was on display at the Accessible
Expressions Ohio 2009, held Feb. 21st at the Westerville Community
Center. UCP artist Charlotte M. gained honors at the event, capturing
second place in the Professional Division. Sponsored by VSA Arts of
Ohio, the event included 180 entries. Of those, 105 were selected for
the show and 10 awards were presented.
Three original paintings by UCP of Central Ohio artist Charlotte M. are
part of the New Perspectives exhibit at the Fresh A.I.R. Gallery. The
exhibit will run through April 11th at 131 N. High Street in Columbus. Charlotte recently won 2nd place in the Professional Division of the
2009 Very Special Arts of Ohio exhibition.
On Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Reese Adult Day Center and United
Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Ohio hosted the 8th Annual Taste
of Italy event to benefit programs and services for older adults
with aging conditions and people with disabilities in Licking County.
The event, complete with a spaghetti dinner, silent auction and a
competitive game of Wine Toss, raised over $4,300.00! All proceeds
benefited the Reese Adult Day Center, a United Way of Licking County
and Licking County Senior Levy program.
